Kamlager-Dove Statement on Proposed Netflix and Warner Brothers/HBO Merger
LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on on Courts, Intellectual Property, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet, released the following statement on the proposed merger between Netflix and Warner Brothers/HBO:
"I have concerns surrounding the proposed merger between Netflix and Warner Brothers/HBO, so I will be closely monitoring developments to ensure that this deal does not negatively impact consumers and the creative community.
"As the representative of a vibrant district in the heart of Los Angeles, it is my duty to uplift the creative community, whose work is the heartbeat of these major studios, and the consumers whose support sustains the entertainment industry.
"At a time when American families are grappling with an affordability crisis, I take my Judiciary Committee responsibilities seriously. It is crucial that new deals, innovations, and mergers don’t diminish competition, drive up streaming costs, or negatively impact the creative community I am proud to represent.
"This deal marks the beginning of a regulatory process. I look forward to a robust Congressional examination of its merits and its impact on competitiveness and the creative sector as a whole. Throughout this process, our top priority must be what’s best for creatives and consumers."
