Kamlager-Dove Statement on Trump’s Extreme Immigration Executive Orders

January 22, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), Co-Chair of the Global Migration Caucus, released a statement on the extreme immigration executive orders that Trump signed during his first couple of days in office:

“In 2024, the American people demanded lower grocery prices– not inhumane and unrealistic immigration policies that cost taxpayers $26 billion a year to implement. Frankly, it’s disgusting that, instead of making life more affordable for everyday Americans as promised, Donald Trump used his first days in office trying to end the Constitutional promise of birthright citizenship, undermining the sanctity of safe spaces like churches and schools, laying the groundwork to reinstate his Islamophobic travel ban, and more.

“I am appalled but not surprised, so I'll continue to tell the truth: immigrants help run our country. In fact, by deporting those who support our economy in jobs behind the scenes, the prices of everything from strawberries to eggs will rise and GDP will decrease by an estimated 7%. This is not what Americans asked for.

“No matter how hard he tries, Donald Trump cannot erase the fundamental truth that the United States is a nation of immigrants. He may push his anti-immigrant agenda, but he cannot diminish the diverse cultures and identities woven into the tapestry of our country. To the vibrant immigrant community in California's 37th District: please know that my office and I are here to support you during these troubling times. We will not stand idly by as Donald Trump seeks to steal your promise of the American dream.”
