Kamlager-Dove Announces 2024 Congressional Art Competition

March 12, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) launched student applications for California’s 37th District's submission in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide competition that allows high school students to submit their original art pieces for a chance to have their artwork displayed in the Capitol.

Following the selection process, the Congresswoman will invite the winner to celebrate in Washington, D.C. on June 27, 2024 alongside winning artists from across the country. Submissions will be accepted now through Friday, April 12, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. (PST) at her district office, or Friday, April 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. (PST) at your school's main office.

“I am so excited to once again kick off the Congressional Art Competition for California's 37th District,” said Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. “Our district is home to exceptional talent in art and design, and I know that the submissions we receive will represent the immense creativity of Los Angeles. Art is one of the most powerful tools in our democracy, and I cannot wait to see the winner’s work admired in the United States Capitol for the year ahead.”

To participate in this competition, participants must adhere to guidelines found here. Artwork entered in the contest may measure up to 26 inches by 26 inches with a depth of up to 4 inches and should not exceed 15 pounds in weight.

Accepted forms of artwork include:

  • Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers; it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.
  • Collages - must be two dimensional
  • Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media - use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing).
