2025 Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent in our Congressional District and across the nation. 

The competition is open to all high school students in California’s 37th District. The district's winner will have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside winning submissions from across the country and will be invited to the Congressional Art Competition Winners’ Celebration at the U.S. Capitol on June 11, 2025 . The winning artwork will also be featured on the House of Representatives' official Congressional Art Competition page. 

The following is a summary of the Congressional Art Competition rules: 

Artwork entered in the contest must be two-dimensional. Submissions may measure up to 26 inches by 26 inches with a depth of up to 4 inches and should not exceed 15 pounds in weight, including framing. 

Accepted forms of artwork include:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
  • Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (charcoal and pastel must be fixed)
  • Collages: must be two dimensional
  • Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

Please complete the Student Release Form here: 2025 Student Release Form. This form must be typed, printed, and then signed.

Entries must be submitted to our district office before Wednesday, April 16 at 5:00 pm PT or to your school's main office before Wednesday, April 16 at 2:00 pm PT. Students are limited to one art submission per year.   

Additional office information & requirements:

  • Must make 2 copies of 2025 Student Release Form (one in a folder and one taped to the back of the artwork)
  • Art pieces do not have to be framed for judging 
  • In addition, please submit a high-quality photo in JPG format to Jackson.Benarroch@mail.house.gov. Make sure to include a copy of the 2025 Student Release Form in PDF format. Include in the subject line of the email the following information: 
    • “Your name - Name of the piece – Medium” 

Entries will be judged by a panel of local artists and art experts, and the winner will be notified by early May.
