Kamlager-Dove Announces Over $1.1M in Grant Funding for Children and Public Safety Programs Across Los Angeles, Culver City

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) announced over $1.1M in grant funding from the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs for California’s 37th District. This award package includes $200,000 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for body-worn cameras and programming to support law enforcement agencies in Culver City, and $972,405 from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the Children’s Institute, Inc. to support children exposed to violence across South Los Angeles.

This funding is critical to improving public safety for Angelenos and building safer communities for our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. The grant to Culver City will enable law enforcement officers to invest in up-to-date technology that best serves their communities, and the funding given to the Children’s Institute, Inc. will build holistic programming for those exposed to violence, including on-site response, mental health counseling, youth development activities, and follow up support.

I am glad to announce this funding as we continue to find ways to keep our communities safe in cooperation with community organizations across Los Angeles and Culver City,” said Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. “This funding will support our law enforcement officers who work diligently to keep us safe while building public trust through the visibility of updated body cameras. In addition, the funding for the Children’s Institute will provide programming for our children who have witnessed violence, mitigating their trauma and ensuring they can move forward with resilience and the support they need. I will always cosign efforts to reform our criminal justice system through my work in Congress, and I look forward to seeing how these federal funds will make a difference in our community.”
