Kamlager-Dove Applauds Biden Administration’s Pause on Exports of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG)
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement celebrating a key win for both climate and consumers after the Biden Administration paused new approvals for the export of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).
“While we continue to combat climate change and build climate resiliency, I welcome the Department of Energy’s (DOE) decision to halt LNG exports. I hope this pause is the first step of DOE considering valuable reforms in the LNG process to determine whether they are in the public interest. It is vital that the DOE take steps to assess the climate, environmental justice, and domestic energy impacts of LNG exports, and I was glad to write a letter to the Biden Administration last year calling for these very considerations. This step is crucial for Los Angeles, as our community grapples with the worst aspects of the climate crisis, including extreme heat, wildfires, and drought.
“This is a big win, but more work must be done to ensure a stable future for our children and grandchildren. As Vice Ranking Member on the Natural Resources Committee, I will continue to vocally oppose handouts that my Republican colleagues want to give their big oil friends. I will continue to work alongside the Biden Administration to achieve our climate goals and to shield CA37, our nation, and the world from the disastrous impacts of climate change.”
