Kamlager-Dove Delivers $1.6 Million to Butterfly’s Haven to Increase Housing and Economic Security for Youth in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) presented $1,666,279 to Butterfly’s Haven for its Youth Housing Project, which will create equitable housing security and economic opportunities for youth in Los Angeles. The project is one of 15 community projects that Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove secured a total of $12.4 million for through Fiscal Year 2024 government funding legislation, of which $6.4 million will go toward addressing housing insecurity in Los Angeles.

Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove presents a check for over $1.6 million to Butterfly's Haven for its Youth Housing Project.
The funding secured by Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove will allow Butterfly’s Haven to acquire an additional site, open a youth hub and workforce training center, and, over time, redevelop the space to include housing, creating a centralized and comprehensive community resource. Services offered at the youth hub and workforce training center will include workforce development, case management, mental health services, rapid rehousing assistance, childcare support, and financial literacy programs, ensuring wraparound services for youth in transition.
“With a focus on creating permanent supportive housing and economic opportunity for youth ages 18-30, Butterfly’s Haven has transformed the lives of 75 Angelenos and counting who are on the brink of becoming all they are meant to be,” said Rep. Kamlager-Dove. “I am thrilled to have secured this funding for Butterfly’s Haven’s Youth Housing Project, which will provide more young people with a safe place to call home, heal, and grow into the best versions of themselves. As we work to increase housing permanence in Los Angeles, we must always prioritize people-centered solutions that address the root causes of housing insecurity by tackling social and economic injustice in our community.”
“This funding is a powerful step toward creating dignified housing as a human right,” said Brittany Walker, Founder and CEO of Butterfly’s Haven. “We are deeply committed to serving marginalized youth—providing them with not only a safe place to live but also opportunities to grow and thrive. As someone who has experienced homelessness firsthand, I know the transformative power of community and support. This grant allows us to continue that mission, expanding our reach and ensuring more young people can take flight and find their wings.”
“In the midst of uncertainty, I found my wings. From feeling lost to building a future, I discovered that hope can take flight when we meet those who truly care,” said Ferrari Woodmore, current Butterfly’s Haven resident. “Butterfly’s Haven is truly amazing. Every challenge is a step toward transformation, and every moment of kindness can change a life.”
“Joining Butterfly’s Haven was the best decision during my time of homelessness,” said Kaehlyn Pierce, former Butterfly’s Haven resident. “From sleeping in my car to receiving incredible support, I secured permanent housing sooner than expected. Ms. Brittany is a true blessing, providing both housing and ongoing support beyond expectations. I’m grateful to still have her and the rest of the team’s presence and guidance in my life.”
