ON THE 10 FREEWAY

“The 10 Freeway is a major artery for families taking their young people to school, for small businesses, and for interstate commerce, so it's amazing that we have a Mayor who has relationships with the federal government and has quickly been able to marshal state and local resources to get to work as quickly as possible. I’m certainly leaning in with Department of Transportation, and we’re inquiring to see if FEMA can be of help. We don't know how long this reconstruction is going to take, but gratefully tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was designed to provide resources for catastrophes just like this. Of course, in the meantime, take other streets, and try to telecommute, and practice patience.”

ON REPUBLICANS’ CONTINUING RESOLUTION

“Well, the most frustrating thing is that you have a band of anti-institutionalists, federal arsonists, who have been holding the federal government hostage, and I’m talking about the extreme MAGA right. They ousted one Speaker for pushing forward a clean [continuing resolution], now we have a new Speaker who is essentially doing the same thing except he's chunked it out into two sections…Democrats for the third time are being asked to step in and keep this government open…The President has also signaled that we need to have a domestic supplemental, so we are working to make sure that child care gets funded, we are working to make sure that broadband gets funded...on top of national defense funding for Ukraine, for Israel, and for Taiwan, so I think the President said all options are on the table, and he's going to review what is sent to him...”

ON THE CRISIS IN GAZA

“[The President has] definitely…asked for a humanitarian pause. He has pushed for a I think, a three-day or four-day pause. He, as well as Secretary [of State] Blinken, have stated that the casualties, the deaths of innocent Palestinian civilians, is too much for us to bear, especially when over half of them are young children. I think he has a responsibility to continue to talk to [Prime Minister] Netanyahu and press for them to find some kind of end to this or to at least be more strategic in their military operation. I am also pushing for a diplomatic intervention. I don't think any war is solved by using the military alone.”
