WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) joined the Environmental Protection Agency in announcing 2 million dollars in grant funding for the Los Angeles area. This funding, which will invest in three projects in Los Angeles, is part of $128 million to fund 186 projects across the country that advance environmental justice as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

The organizations, which EPA has selected through its Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem Solving Cooperative Agreement and Environmental Justice Government-to-Government programs, will use the funds to ensure disadvantaged communities that have historically suffered from underinvestment have access to clean air and water and climate resilience solutions in alignment with the Biden-Harris Administration’s Justice40 Initiative. Thanks to President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act—the largest climate investment in U.S. history—this is the largest investment ever announced under these two longstanding EPA programs. This is the first in a series of environmental justice grant announcements the agency will announce before the end of the year.

“As Vice Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee and cosponsor of the Donald A. McEachin Environmental Justice for All Act, I am glad to see these funds investing directly into the Los Angeles community to better protect Angelenos against the impacts of pollution, toxins, and climate risks,” said Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. “For too long, communities of color have been made to disproportionately suffer the impacts of pollution and the worsening climate crisis, but I am hopeful that this grants package from the EPA through the Biden-Harris Administration will set us on a path of restoration and climate resilience. As Representative to California’s 37th District, I will continue to advocate for Angelenos and bring home federal funds to support critical projects like these.”

“No President has invested more in environmental justice than President Biden, and under his leadership we’re removing longstanding barriers and meaningfully collaborating with communities to build a healthier future for all,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “Together, these community-driven projects will improve the health, equity, and resilience of communities while setting a blueprint for local solutions that can be applied across the nation.”

The following projects have received funding through this award:

  • $500,000 for the Council for Watershed Health’s ReDesignLA initiative, Pasadena and Greater Los Angeles, CA
  • $500,000 for the Community Health Council’s Environmental Justice and BIPOC Women’s Health Campaign, Los Angeles, CA
  • $1,000,000 for the Los Angeles County Public Works’ Climate Ready Communities (CRC) Project, Los Angeles, CA
