Kamlager-Dove, House Democrats Introduce Legislation To Kick Musk Out of Treasury

February 6, 2025

Taxpayer Data Protection Act ensures trusted public servants, not Elon Musk, can access personal information

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) joined House Democrats in introducing the Taxpayer Data Protection Act in response to Elon Musk’s shameful invasion of Americans’ privacy. This legislation would prevent people who have conflicts of interest or lack a security clearance from accessing the Treasury Department’s highly sensitive payment system, which distributes nearly $6 trillion in federal funding annually, including Social Security and Medicare benefits.

“Elon Musk’s takeover of Treasury’s checkbook is a dangerous move that violates every American's privacy. House Democrats and I will not stand idly by as President Musk steals people's personal information and carries out his economic coup,” said Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. “I am proud to support the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, legislation that  would reassert Congress’ authority over federal spending and halt President Musk’s hostile government takeover. As a Member of the House Judiciary Committee, I will hold the Trump Administration accountable for this gross overreach and work to ensure Musk and his unqualified, 19-year-old minions keep their hands off of Americans’ benefits and bank accounts.”

The Taxpayer Data Protection Act would curb corruption and protect privacy by ensuring that only trusted public servants—not unelected billionaires like Elon Musk—can access the Treasury Department’s most sensitive systems. Read the full text of the legislation here.
