Kamlager-Dove: This Impeachment Inquiry is a Distraction and a Sham

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) issued the following statement in response to House Republicans’ sham impeachment inquiry:

“Republicans have turned the House of Representatives into a circus. Speaker McCarthy has no backbone. Instead of working to bring legislation to the Floor to act on gun violence, strengthen health care for Americans, or address the climate crisis, he has become a puppet for the far-right wing of his own conference. Taxpayers in my District and across the country are footing the bill for this impeachment inquiry farce. In an act of vengeance and cowardice, House Republicans are moving forward with an investigation using unsubstantiated connections between President Biden and his family’s business dealings. This impeachment inquiry is a distraction from what Republicans are not doing and a total sham.

“As we approach the end of the fiscal year with a government shutdown looming, Republicans would rather spend their energy on a baseless inquiry than come together to negotiate the appropriations bills and properly fund the critical government programs Americans depend on to stay alive. The House of Representatives has a moral obligation to focus on real issues that matter to the people we serve. Democrats will not allow ourselves to be baited into House Republicans’ political games.”
