WASHINGTON, DC –Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) issued the following statement in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month:

“I join in observing the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time dedicated to honoring the rich history, remarkable contributions, and unwavering resilience of the Latino community. It is a source of great pride for me to represent the diverse groups hailing from Mexico and Central and South America who have made California's 37th District their home. I deeply appreciate the vibrant cultural tapestry they bring to Los Angeles and our state of California.

"Here in the 37th District, spanning from the East side to Culver City and Mid-City, we witness the profound influence of Hispanic Americans in various facets of our society, including the arts, education, economic development, and culinary traditions, among others. As a dedicated member of the Congressional Black Caucus, I am delighted to collaborate closely with my colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and to find opportunities to fight for policies that are key to improving the well-being of our communities.

"During this Hispanic Heritage Month, it is imperative that we remain steadfast in our commitment to combat the demonization of the Latino community, a distressing trend that has regrettably become all too common across our nation. Rhetoric and policies aimed at dehumanizing immigrants stand in direct opposition to our cherished democratic and egalitarian values. Instead of erecting barriers, we must focus on comprehensive immigration reform. Rather than engaging in political theatrics by relocating migrants to different states, we ought to respect the legal right of individuals to seek asylum wherever they may be. Rather than imperiling the protections afforded to DACA and TPS holders, we should strive to ensure that our children have viable pathways to citizenship in the country they call home and hold dear. I take immense pride in advocating for legislation that improves our immigration system, and I will always stand firm against the cruel and un-American mistreatment of Latino communities.

"To my constituents in CA-37 and to individuals across our great nation, please know that I see you, I stand in support of you, and I extend my warmest wishes for a joyous Hispanic Heritage Month.”
