Kamlager-Dove Statement on the FY25 NDAA
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement after voting no on the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (FY25 NDAA):
“People don’t often shine light on the behind-the-scenes negotiations necessary to pass a substantial package of legislation like the National Defense Authorization Act. So, I’ll break it down for you: Democrats worked across the aisle to extract harmful, partisan provisions from the FY25 NDAA and help craft a truly bipartisan bill that advanced important quality-of-life provisions for our service members. Shamefully, at the 11th hour, Speaker Johnson snuck in a cruel measure to deny healthcare to trans children of service members without even consulting his Republican Chairman of the Armed Services Committee. By interfering in this bipartisan process, Speaker Johnson made it impossible for many Democrats to vote for this legislation.
“While there were many aspects of the FY25 NDAA that I support, including my bill that I worked diligently across the aisle and across chambers to secure, it is immensely hypocritical that Speaker Johnson cannibalized this legislation by dropping in unrelated, rights-stripping provisions. For a party that likes to point fingers at Democrats for perpetuating culture wars, Republicans continue to use these issues as pawns to obstruct critical bipartisan policy-making. Our service members and country deserve better than a Republican majority that is more interested in delivering theatrics than results.”
