WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) issued the following statement after the House passed the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024:

“I oppose H.R. 4821, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024 because Republicans sabotaged this essential funding package with poison pills. The bill voted on today was anti-environment and pro-pollution. In its current form, this legislation would slash funding for the Environmental Protection Agency to a level we haven’t seen since 1991, cut $9.4 billion from the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, and strain our National Park Service by cutting their funding by almost half a billion dollars. These cuts roll back progress in combating climate change, exacerbate environmental discrimination, and force Americans out of their jobs. At the end of the day, Republicans chose to put forward a package that would endanger public health, hurt the economy, and burden American families with higher costs.

“While I was glad to see that my bipartisan amendment to address sexual harassment and other toxic workplace issues was included in this legislation, I am disheartened that I could not support its passage due to these toxic measures. Sexual harassment at the Department of Interior is a long-standing problem that has spanned both Republican and Democratic Administrations. The bipartisan support of this amendment is a clear response to the overwhelming calls for action to make workplaces safe for our federal employees.

“If Republicans continue to push their extremist, partisan agenda on the American people, we run the risk of environmental catastrophe and will never address issues that have plagued our institutions for generations. I came to Congress to serve the people who duly elected me as their Representative, and I will not fall for these partisan games.”
