Kamlager-Dove Statement on the Passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement in wake of the passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee:

"Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was a fierce warrior for her constituents and for freedom, justice, and equality. A trailblazer in the truest sense of the word, Congresswoman Jackson Lee cultivated a historic legislative resume over her 30 years of service, including the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, creation of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, and reintroduction of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

"She was a loving friend and mentor to many in the House Democratic Caucus and Congressional Black Caucus, and was a guiding force for this freshman lawmaker. Her loss will be felt immensely but her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched. Rest in power, congresswoman."
