WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) issued the following statement marking the beginning of the 2024 open enrollment season for marketplace insurance plans:
“Every American deserves access to quality health care to ensure they can stay healthy and go to providers they can trust. Thanks to the Biden Administration, investments in the Inflation Reduction Act have expanded provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to ensure more Americans have access to the care they need at even lower costs. In fact, four out of five Americans will be able to find a plan for under $10 a month. In 2023, more than 16 million Americans enrolled in ACA marketplace plans – the most Americans to ever enroll. Additionally, Medicaid recipients who lost coverage are eligible for an extended enrollment period until July 2024.
“Residents in California’s 37th District are saving an average of $960 a year on their plans, and ACA expansion through the Inflation Reduction Act has helped 33,000 people sign up across our District, expanding critical access to preventative care for some of our community’s most vulnerable. In addition, the Inflation Reduction Act allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices to drive down costs for our seniors. This program will save nearly 19 million Americans approximately $7.4 billion annually on prescription drug costs, and approximately 2,181,000 Californians will save an average of $300 on prescription drugs every year when the $2,000 cap on annual out-of-pocket pharmacy costs for Americans with Medicare goes into effect in 2025.
“I will always fight to improve health care accessibility, equity, and affordability for everyone because health care is a right, not a privilege for the few. If you are in need of coverage, do not wait. Find the marketplace plan that is right for you today.”
Those in need of health insurance can compare plans and apply for coverage at HealthCare.gov or Covered California if they are a California resident. The open enrollment period is open now through December 15 nationwide, but those seeking coverage through Covered California have until January 31, 2024 due to a special state extension.
