WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement on the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA decision, which would undermine usage of the safe and effective abortion medicine Mifepristone:

“Less than a year after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a Texas court has attempted to severely compromise access to medication abortion. For 22 years, FDA-approved Mifepristone has been a safe and crucial part of medication abortion for those seeking abortion access. Should this decision to block FDA approval of this medication hold, it would put the lives of women at risk, threaten the use of other safe medications backed by the FDA, and make it harder for women to receive the care that they need and deserve.

It is dangerous to take away a reliable medication from patients. Restricting access to health care and interfering with patient-provider relationships only make it harder for people to get the care that they need. Extremist Republicans want to turn back the clock on reproductive freedoms without facing the real-world impact it will have on women and families. I am glad that the Biden Administration is appealing this decision because everyone should have the ability to make decisions about their own reproductive lives and futures.”
