Kamlager-Dove Statement on Trump and Elon Musk’s Shameful Attempts to Dismantle USAID

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on South and Central Asia, released the following statement on President Elon Musk and his puppet Donald Trump’s actions to dismantle USAID and gut the U.S. foreign assistance apparatus:

"Turns out, America First means America Last. By destroying USAID, Trump and Elon Musk have made it clear to the whole world that if you want help, your only options are China and Russia. These illegal, short-sighted, and destructive actions will hurt every American by crippling our ability to shape global events and prevent crises from reaching our shores. They upend our core competitive advantage: without values-based foreign aid, American leadership does not offer our partners anything different from the might-makes-right approach of our adversaries. 
 
"In just two weeks, Trump’s diabolical executive actions have made the United States weaker, more isolated, and more vulnerable - not stronger, safer, or more prosperous. The dismantling of USAID is one more nail in the coffin of American global leadership under Trump. Our adversaries are celebrating, our partners and allies are panicking, and the American people are left suffering the consequences."
