WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement commemorating Veterans Day:
"Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to honor and stand united with CA-37’s veterans, survivors, and their families. I join in expressing deep gratitude to the brave men and women who have selflessly served and sacrificed in defense of our state and country.
“I was glad to celebrate our veterans in the District today. Today and every day, we should thank our veterans for their courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Our nation owes them all a debt that can never be fully repaid. It is also an opportunity for us to remind ourselves that freedom is not a guarantee but a gift earned through those who bravely stood on the frontlines to defend our democracy.
“As the granddaughter of a veteran, I say thank you to our servicemembers and their families. In Congress, today is also a chance for us to highlight the important benefits available to our veteran community. House Democrats were instrumental in securing the enactment of the PACT Act last Congress, which has delivered over $2 billion in benefits to our veterans and survivors. However, we must do more to honor our nation’s commitment to supporting our servicemembers.
“For our women servicemembers, we need to see more action. This includes ensuring that they have access to reproductive health care, maternal health care, and birth control and that Congress takes measures to stamp out the rise of sexual assault on army bases. We also must be determined to protect our veterans long after they return home. It should be a priority that our veterans have access to mental health resources and affordable, safe housing options. These are all things I will continue to support and advocate for in Congress.
“I hope we treat today as a reminder of the debt and gratitude we owe to our veterans and redouble our efforts to support our servicemembers whether they are in action abroad or here at home.”
