Kamlager-Dove Statement on Voting "No" on H.R. 8369

May 16, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement after voting no on H.R. 8369 alongside 184 other House Democrats:

“Today, House Republicans pushed legislation seeking to paint President Biden as abandoning Israel when the world has seen his commitment to Israel’s security in action. Since October 7, the President has ensured that Israel’s defense stockpile remains sufficiently supplied, assembled an international coalition to defend Israel against an unprecedented missile attack from Iran, and played an integral role in securing the release of over 100 hostages as he continues working to secure the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza through a negotiated ceasefire.

“This legislation is Republican hypocrisy at its finest. House Republicans spent months refusing to pass a desperately needed national security supplemental, undercutting our commitments abroad and showing the world that they do not believe the U.S. should invest in our own national security or the security of our partners. Not only would the bill threaten U.S. national security by putting Department of Defense, Department of State, and National Security Council funding at risk– it also supersedes existing U.S. law with regards to military aid, raises Constitutional questions about the President’s Commander-in-Chief powers, and requires the delivery of weapons without any monitoring or oversight.

“I was glad to join House Democratic leadership and 186 of my colleagues in voting no on this radical and overreaching piece of GOP legislation.”
