Kamlager-Dove Statement on Women's History Month
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement to mark the commencement of Women's History Month:
“Women’s History Month begins today, a month-long period where I stand in awe of the remarkable women who have carved our path toward progress. From Harriet Tubman to Ida B. Wells to Shirley Chisholm, the legacies of these women inspire me to continue fighting for the equality we deserve.
“This year, that fight is more prominent than ever. Republicans have used the disastrous Dobbs ruling to undermine women’s rights across the country. The recent attack on IVF in Alabama showed how gutting abortion protections is just the beginning. It’s not only about controlling women’s bodies, it’s about deciding who’s fit to give birth.
“We can’t let them take us back in time. Bodily autonomy is just as essential as owning land or being able to vote—without it, women are not free. As we confront the archaic ideas being floated around the MAGA House Majority, let us find strength in the stories of women like Rosa Parks who fought and won.
“Which is exactly what House Democrats are going to do. I’m supporting Rep. Wild’s Access to Family Building Act to federally protect IVF, and I co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would restore Roe’s nationwide abortion protections. My colleagues in the Democratic Women’s Caucus and I are relentlessly determined to achieve full gender equality—we won’t stop fighting until we do.”
