WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) issued the following statement after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) reached a tentative agreement with Hollywood studios:
“After almost 150 days of strength and commitment, today is a win for the more than 11,000 members of WGA and the City of Los Angeles. I join in celebrating a hard-fought agreement between WGA and Hollywood studios. Though we will wait and see the actual language of the contract, I am glad to know the tentative deal has included better pay and benefits, higher residual payments, transparency around streaming projects, and protection from artificial intelligence infringing on writers’ intellectual property rights.
“As emerging technologies change the landscape of our entertainment industry, studio leadership must also adapt so they can recruit and retain the best talent while creating engaging content that inspires communities across the country. The Hollywood industry is nothing without its dedicated writers and creatives who bring to life the stories and experiences that we all love and enjoy. I hope this tentative deal paves the way for the tens of thousands of SAG-AFTRA members also fighting for a fair deal and better conditions.
“As a daughter of creatives, I promise to advocate for our artists – a key part of my L.E.A.D agenda. The success of the entertainment industry bolsters our regional economy and allows us to advance the arts, supporting the next generation of writers and creatives and contributing to the vibrancy of Los Angeles and Southern California. We must continue to uplift the work of our nation’s writers as we enjoy their storylines across so many platforms. In Congress, I will continue to support fair wages and work conditions for all.”
