Kamlager-Dove Votes Against Extreme, Partisan Government Funding Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ partisan State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs; Department of Defense; and Homeland Security appropriations legislation:
“This week, House Republicans once again hijacked annual government funding legislation to advance their extreme, partisan, and out-of-touch agenda. Rather than strengthening U.S. leadership on the world stage, Republicans proposed 11% cuts to critical international programs, promoting isolationism and extremism at a time when our global partners are depending on us. Instead of making meaningful investments in our national security and defense capabilities, Republicans chose to attack the reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights of our servicemembers. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle claim to be serious about addressing immigration yet choose to waste billions of dollars on ineffective and harmful policies that do nothing to address the global migration crisis.
“Time and time again, House Republicans have put the priorities of the most extreme factions of their party over the priorities of the American people, proving that they are unserious about governing. Our constituents rely on us to fund critical government programs that keep our country safe— they deserve better than dangerous, half-baked policies that diminish U.S. leadership, undermine global democracy, and fail to protect our communities.”
