Kamlager-Dove Votes for the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) voted for the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, legislation that will reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for five years. This bill will maintain American leadership in aviation safety and aerospace innovation, strengthen and diversify the U.S. aviation workforce, make groundbreaking investments in sustainability and resiliency, and improve consumer protections and accessibility.
“Safe, efficient, and accessible air travel is vital not only for our regional economy but also for our ability to spend time and make memories with those we love,” said Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove. “Ahead of today’s vote on the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, I met with local members of the aviation workforce in Los Angeles to better understand their priorities in the FAA reauthorization bill– and I believe this legislation meets those needs. It promotes aviation safety for workers and passengers, increases diversity in the aviation industry, and reduces the environmental impact of air travel. I look forward to seeing President Biden sign this legislation into law to create good-paying aviation jobs and enhance the passenger experience for Angelenos.”
Specifically, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 will:
- Maintain America’s gold standard in aviation safety by minimizing runway incidents, updating onboard emergency kits, ensuring foreign repair stations meet U.S. standards, and protecting flight crews and passengers;
- Increase air travel accessibility by letting young families sit together at no cost and protecting wheelchairs and mobility aids from damage;
- Promote diversity in the aviation industry by recruiting, training, and retaining talent from underrepresented groups;
- Leverage drones as a tool for federal wildfire detection, mitigation, and suppression efforts—saving people and property;
- Mitigate the negative impact of aviation noise on communities across the country; and
- Reduce the impact of CO2 emissions by building infrastructure for greener fuels and expanding grants for environmental resiliency projects.
Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove attended a series of aviation-related events ahead of voting on the FAA reauthorization bill. On Monday, Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove visited LAX to meet with members and representatives from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Association of Flight Attendants to learn more about the policy priorities of the aviation workforce. Following this meeting, she met with FAA Regional Administrator Raquel Girvin, Deputy Regional Administrator Faviola Garcia, and air traffic controllers to discuss local issues, including noise pollution and workforce shortages. The week prior, Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove hosted U.S. Trade and Development Agency Director Enoh Ebong at LAX to showcase the latest U.S. innovations in airport security screening.
