Readout: Ranking Member Kamlager-Dove Meets with President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan During C5 + 1 Summit
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on South and Central Asia, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) met with President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan during the C5 + 1 Summit. Rep. Kamlager-Dove and President Mirziyoyev discussed the importance of repealing Jackson-Vanik, continuing Uzbekistan's recent progress on reforms, and improving conditions for Afghan women and girls. Rep. Kamlager-Dove applauded President Mirziyoyev's efforts to increase women's political participation and eradicate forced labor. Rep. Kamlager-Dove also congratulated the president on Uzbekistan's qualification for the FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted in Los Angeles in 2026.
Rep. Kamlager-Dove expressed that she looks forward to working together to further enhance people-to-people ties and educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries, including through sports diplomacy.
