Statement from Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager (CA-37) on the Death of Keenan Anderson
LOS ANGELES – In response to the death of Keenan Anderson, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager released the following statement:
“We are just days into 2023, and already the number of black people killed by police is staggering, heartbreaking, and unacceptable.
“Excessive uses of force by police against black and brown bodies does not equate public safety. Public safety demands, at minimum, respect for all human life.
“For years, Black and brown people have stood up and demanded reform. Demanded a change to the status quo. Demanded basic human dignity. Too little progress has been made, and far too many lives have been lost. This country has become numb to the loss of life in our communities. Now, when one of us is killed, it is just another day.
“We must do more to curb the epidemic and apathy of police violence in this country. We must pass effective legislation that addresses police violence and state sanctioned murder.
“My thoughts are with the families of Keenan Anderson. Know that I will carry his memory with me through the halls of Congress as I continue to fight for justice for our people.”
