U.S. Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, a Democrat from California, told The Brazilian Report before the hearing that "Republicans are the opposite of concerned about democracy in Brazil."

After Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Los Angeles) was elected to Congress in 2022, she became his first Democratic [bipartisan dinner series] co-host in Washington.

It can take years for foreign nationals who have worked for the U.S. government overseas to qualify and obtain special immigrant visas to move to the United States with their family. 

But a bill signed into law late last year is hoping to make a dent in that backlog.

Kamlager-Dove, who serves on the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, told theGrio that the U.S. “needs to step up” and that “Haiti deserves our attention and alliance.”
