Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.) also signaled concern over mistruths from Lutnick. “In between gaslighting Americans about the economy & sucking up to Trump, Lutnick took up TV air time to lie about his relationship with Epstein,” Kamlager-Dove wrote on X. “He visited Epstein’s island in 2012 yet claimed he cut ties with Epstein years earlier. What else is he hiding? He must resign.”
In a post on the same platform, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove called this a new low even for Trump, given that it is only the first week of Black History Month, and depicting a Black person as anything close to a primate is a long-understood, harmful, and racist trope.

“I am incensed that federal resources from DHS, from [the justice department] – we’re talking about prosecutors, we’re talking about agents, we’re talking about funds – are being diverted away from anti-human trafficking programs and reassigned to immigration enforcement,” the California congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who organized the letter, said in an interview. “It is a dereliction of duty to say the least, but it is egregious considering how heinous these crimes are.”

This funding stems from California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed state budget for fiscal year 2026–27, which allocates $96.5 million for improvements and renovations of Exposition Park, with an additional $1 million in funding secured by Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove of California, including parts of Exposition Park.
