WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37)released the following statement on the future of TikTok:

“It is laughable that Trump is trying to position himself as TikTok’s ‘savior’ when he created this problem in the first place by proposing the initial ban. If Trump signs an executive order tomorrow granting TikTok a 90-day extension to divest, he should not be celebrated for merely kicking the can down the road.

“I certainly try to take the high road all the time, but I also keep receipts,” said Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, a Los Angeles Democrat whose sister-in-law lost her home in the Eaton inferno.

“I do believe in the universe, and karma is real,” she added. “You start down this road and it’s very hard to go back. It’s a cautionary tale for folks that want to politicize people’s lives and people’s tragedy.”

“For decades, the American justice system disproportionately handed down longer, harsher sentences for Black and Brown individuals compared to others convicted of similar crimes.

“It is wholly inappropriate for Speaker Johnson to even suggest that he would condition aid to California, given these disasters have happened due to climate change, something no one can control,” said Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Los Angeles. “At the end of the day, it sounds like the speaker is trying to penalize California for having strong winds and a dry climate.”
