“Today, we mourn the passing of President Jimmy Carter, a man whose legacy of service, compassion, and humility extends far beyond his time in office. As a former president and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, President Carter’s immeasurable impact on our nation and the world will never be forgotten.
In letters sent this month, Sen. Alex Padilla and Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, both Democrats, requested the U.S. Department of Justice investigate the incident on July 4, 2022, at the Men’s Central Jail.

"Once again, Democrats had to rescue Speaker Johnson and his dysfunctional Republican Majority from their own ineptitude. Today marked the fifth time Democrats swooped in to save the day and keep the government open this Congress alone. Yet, we had to do so begrudgingly–this was not our original deal.
